Following proper hygiene and precautions are a great help to reducing your chances of being infected or spreading COVID-19 by following these simple precautions:

• When someone coughs, sneezes, or speaks; they spray tiny liquid droplets from their nose or mouth which may contain the virus, so you should maintain a minimum of 1 meter distance away from others. If you get too close, you have a high chance of breathing in these tiny droplets which might have already been contaminated by the COVID-19 virus.

• Make it a point to frequently wash your hands thoroughly with alcohol-based hand rubs or with soap and water. Washing your hands thoroughly kills viruses that may have stuck on your hands.

• If you need to leave your house, always wear a mask to avoid the possibility of infecting others. When you start to display minor symptoms such as cough, headache and mild fever, stay at home and self-isolate.

• Prevent yourself from touching/rubbing your eyes, nose and mouth. Your hands touch many surfaces that the virus might have settled on. Once your hands get contaminated, it can transfer the virus to your eyes, nose or mouth and finally enter your body and infect you.

• Stop or avoid from going to crowded places. When people come flocked together, it is more likely for them to come into contact with someone infected with COVID-19.

• Whenever you cough or sneeze, make it a habit to cover your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue then immediately dispose of the used tissue. Remember to wash your hands after.

• Find medical attention if you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing. Contact your local health authority by telephone in advance if possible and follow their directions. This helps your local authorities in getting up to date information on the situation in your area. Contacting them in advance will also help your health care provider in quickly directing you to the right facility.
